Dear Friends and Partners in Lao Mission
We thank God for many blessings He has bestowed to His Church in Laos
through your prayers and support. We are currently undergoing several
projects. The construction of the Vientiane multipurpose church building
that has a church with 400 seating capacity, a 5 classroom language school,
a restaurant, a dental clinic, and Lao Mission office is progressing well.
We are expecting to complete this project in time, July 2017, and within
the budget. The work now stands at 45%.
We are also building 3 churches in Luang Prabang, at Na Ouan Village, Na
Ang Village, Nam Thouam Village. These churches are to accommodate members
who have recently outgrown their house churches. We are also building a
language school at Luang Prabang City. Also the same problem, we had more
students who outgrow their 1 classroom. We need to add more classrooms.
On our community service, funded by ASAP, we are also building a water
system for the people of Na Ouan Village. Some of you who are regular
readers will know that we have successfully built a gravity fed water
system and latrines for Mok Jong Village in 2015, also supported by ASAP.
Our reputation in providing clean water and latrines is spreading far and
wide in Luang Prabang Province, thus enhancing our preaching of the gospel
of Jesus.
In some areas though we are still facing many challenges. One of our
churches outside Vientiane Capital still remains close. The negotiations
with the local authority still did not yield a satisfactory result. We are
continuing the negotiation, taking the matter to higher authorities. And
just last week, at the National Assembly Session, Pastor Bounprany Vannady,
our Lao Attached Field President, was appointed by the central government
to be an advisor to the national government religious affairs. Perhaps God
was behind this appointment. We praise God for a new position that was
given to our president. We hope that with his new position he will be able
to facilitate more positive negotiations with the local authority regarding
our church in dispute which was forcibly closed.
May God bless all of you. Thank you for your continuing prayers and
support to the Lord’s work in Laos.
Best regards
Khamsay Phetchareun
